Kolkata keen to carry on momentum

After a stunning victory in the inaugural match, Kolkata will be raring to go against last season’s first runners-up Bangalore on Sunday.

The atmosphere at the Eden Gardens is expected to be exhilarating when two former India captains -- Anil Kumble and Sourav Ganguly lead their respective teams into the ground.

It will be Ganguly-led Kolkata though, who will start as favourites in Sunday's match, having won the first game against the defending champions Hyderabad.

The under-dogs Kolkata stunned everyone when they came from behind to register a thrilling 11-run victory over Hyderabad on Friday night under the comeback leader Ganguly.

Hence, now their confidence will be sky-high as Kolkata's middle-order consisting of Owais Shah and Angelo Mathews came good against Hyderabad. And with Laxmi Ratan Shukla and Wriddhiman Saha in the lower-order, the batting looks strong even without the likes of Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum.

Even their new bowling recruit Shane Bond is yet to join the squad.

Meanwhile, Bangalore, who finished second in the second edition of the Indian T20 Series under the able leadership of Kumble would rely mostly on their domestic players.

Karnataka trio of Manish Pandey, Abhimanyu Mithun and R Vinay Kumar may just prove to be crucial to the team's performance.

International players in South African Jacques Kallis and new recruit Eoin Morgan, besides former India captain Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, hard-hitting Robin Uthappa and the in-form Shreevats Goswami, who was the top-scorer in the national one-dayers with 568 runs from seven innings, will obviously give solidity to the Bangalore batting.

As far as bowling is concerned, Bangalore hopes will be pinned on South African pace spearhead Dale Steyn.
