"He should show me some respect"
Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag will lock horns in a much-hyped clash between Mumbai and Delhi on Wednesday.
"He should show me some respect," was Sachin Tendulkar's smiling response when asked how he would deal with Virender Sehwag in Wednesday's match. The response was to a questioner who said Sehwag considers Tendulkar to be his guru, and the contest between the two should be interesting.
Tendulkar accepted that his bowlers had struggled in the match with the Jaipur team but pointed out quickly that his main spinner, Harbhajan Singh, was out of action at that stage. "Yusuf Pathan played a sensational innings and there is very little you can do when someone is playing like that. But you must remember that we didn't have Harbhajan and those four overs are crucial." But Harbhajan is now back in action and with no injury worries, Mumbai ready to go.
Asked about the contentious pitch, Tendulkar said it was not an apprehension. "It is a typical Delhi pitch and as of now I don't think there is too much to worry us.
"We hare confident. Close matches give you a lot of confidence and T20 matches are all about momentum. We have the momentum now and we will try to maintain our momentum."
Tendulkar said the West Indian duo of Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo would be joining the squad on Tuesday night.
Meawhile, Delhi assistant coach Eric Simmons, while conceding that the middle-order's show against the Chandigarh team was a bit of a concern, emphasised that the issue wasn't alarming.
"I am not sure our batting struggled in both matches, especially since we were scoring at 10 runs an over against Chennai," Simmons said on the eve of the match.
"We have a good balance in the batting, and the younger players have also come good when needed. We do understand that we need to tighten the batting but it varies from situation to situation, on what target you are setting or when you have to get to a total."
Asked if bowling two leg-spinners wasn't a luxury, Simmons said: "We have to throw up surprises for the opposition and that was one of them. When I joined the side ten days ago, I was pretty amazed to see what young Ladda could do. Naturally Amit Mishra is the main leggie in the side, but if any player shows potential, it needs to be utilised."
Asked about how the side was planning to deal with Sachin Tendulkar, Simmons said: "Whatever plans we have, we can't really tell you."
