MCA expresses unhappiness over snub

Some controversies are just waiting in the wings of the IPL, writes SportsCenter’s Sai Prasad Mohapatra.

The Mumbai Cricket Association has expressed its displeasure over the IPL giving them the cold shoulder and they are urging the BCCI to look into the matter.

The Indian Premier League is courting controversy again. In a stinging letter written to the BCCI president Shashank Manohar, a copy of which has been seen by SportsCenter, the Mumbai Cricket Association has expressed unhappiness at being snubbed at this season's spectacular.

When the Cricket Club of India refused to co-operate with the inaugural IPL in 2008 it was the MCA who stepped in, offering the use of the Wankhede stadium and assisting with the organising of the ten games played in Mumbai.

Their help was rewarded with a 20% ticket allocation for those games.

Fast forward to the 2010 renewal and the IPL authorities are directly dealing with both the CCI and the DY Patil stadium, with the MCA left out in the cold.

Already feeling let down by the IPL authorities' attitude, salt was rubbed into the wound when the IPL dinner on the 11th of March and the next day's opening ceremony saw invited guests with debatable relevance to the development of Indian cricket, while there was no place at the table for the MCA and former players.

The President of the MCA Sharad Pawar, has sent back all his invitations for this years event to show solidarity to the MCA's grievance, joining the managing committee in boycotting the IPL.
