Karthik is 'not at all impressed'

Delhi stand-in skipper Dinesh Karthik said that another 10 runs may have helped their cause against Chennai.

Delhi skipper Dinesh Karthik is looking a little lost nowadays and few would blame him. At least the man has the courage to come and face the media, which many other veteran skippers manage to avoid, especially after such a heavy loss.

Asked if Delhi had fallen prey to the Mongoose, he even managed a smile. "We were a bit relieved when Hayden was dismissed. We did manage to get a few wickets after that but it was all a bit too late. Another 10 runs may have helped us, those bits and pieces missed when we were batting."

Asked if the Mongoose bat made any difference to the way Hayden batted, Karthik replied ruefully: "No difference. He still plays the same."

"I am not at all impressed with the way we played. We tend to lose far too many wickets, which affects our run rate and the total we would finally get."

Asked if Tillekeratne Dilshan's lack of form was a reason, the captain replied: "Its tough to pinpoint one person. We have seen what AB (de Villiers) and Dilshan can do in T20 cricket and Dilshan is the top T20 player in the world."

Karthik doesn't believe in momentum. "I take it one match at a time."

Suresh Raina, meanwhile, was naturally rather upbeat after Chennai's big win.

"God was kind to us," he said after the match. "We played a good match and Hayden was great. It is a good start to my captaincy."

According to Chennai's new captain, the match turned in Chennai's direction from the moment when Hayden took on Dilshan, Amit Mishra and Dirk Nannes. "From there we were in control."

Asked if using five different bowlers in the first five was a part of his strategy, Raina replied: "When Sehwag is batting the way he did, you have to try different things."

Hayden's Mongoose seems to have left little impact on his captain. "Hayden knows how to play with that bat, he practised two hours with it, so it came to him easily. I tried it for a while but it didn't really suit me."

The skipper had a word of praise for Joginder Sharma. "Joginder has good variation and has been bowling well. He also adds variety to our bowling."
