Warne savours maiden win

Jaipur captain Shane Warne paid rich tributes to his team following their 34-run victory over the Kolkata in the IPL in Ahmedabad.

Useful knocks from Abhishek Jhunjhunwala (46), Adam Voges (37) and Faiz Fazal (31) propelled Jaipur to 168 for seven after they opted to bat first on a slow track.

In response, Kolkata made a mess of the chase and were restricted to 134 for five, crashing to their second consecutive defeat after a bright start to the tournament.

For Jaipur, it was their first win in four matches.

"We have had a pretty ordinary start, but the guys have been working hard and have been preparing well, only we haven't been able to carry that onto the field," Warne said.

"We probably played some embarrassing cricket and we told the guys to back themselves, not to be afraid and to just go out there and show off their talent.

"It is a big relief to get points on the board, but I'm proud of the guys, the way they came out and showed a lot of character.

"We believe we have the best culture in the IPL and it's all about learning how to win.

"Just getting a start holds us in good stead for the rest of the competition."

Warne admitted the slowness of the surface had aided his team.

"Losing Michael (Lumb) the first ball really tested the resolve of the team and we wanted to come out and be aggressive," Warne said.

"The wicket was a little different to the first game we played here, it was good to bat on and it was a good toss to win.

"We use two or three spinners in the middle overs and we try to take the pace off the ball so the slowness in the wicket helped.

"More than the result, I'm just proud of the way the guys played today."

Kolkata captain Sourav Ganguly believed his team needed to improve.

"We were not the best with the ball in the first 10 overs and perhaps this is the only game we haven't been good with the ball," Ganguly said.

"We looked pretty ordinary on the field as well, the pitch was slow and their bowlers found grip while bowling and that made the chase difficult.

"This loss does put us under pressure, but that's something we have got to deal with.

"Once you pick up a cricket bat to the day you finish you are going to be under pressure, but you just have to be patient and play your best cricket.

"We have the potential, but we need to bowl well and the intensity on the field needs to get better."
