Karthik sends out SoS for Gambhir
Delhi captain Dinesh Karthik wishes he was somewhere else after his side went down to Hyderabad on Sunday.
Three straight losses from the time he took over cannot be a nice feeling and by his own admission he wishes Gautam Gambhir was back.
"I am beginning to feel the pinch a bit, and I wish he was fit and back," Karthik said in Cuttack after his side had fallen 10 runs short of Hyderabad's modest total.
"Twenty20 is always a close game and the team that handles the pressure better comes out winner," he said about the game. "We didn't handle the pressure well.
"We are missing Gautam big time, he is a big loss, all the runs he scores at the top of the order," Karthik added.
Hyderabad skipper Adam Gilchrist was a bit relieved, naturally, since it looked like they were losing their grip on the game for a while. "Winning two out of two here (in Cuttack) is a good, positive situation. It is pleasing being in the situation we are in.
"The young players have done a lot of work. Rahul Sharma did well with the ball, and got a crucial wicket. But it is the old boys who are really coming good. Chaminda Vaas was brilliant. They are looking to do so much, on just on the field but off it as wall," Symonds added.
Man of the Match Andrew Symonds was his sardonic self. "The shorter the game is, the better it is when you are growing older," he said. "I didn't do too well for my team in Queensland but this is better. We have some nice momentum going here now."
Vaas was his usual quiet self. "I never thought I would be holding the purple cap. Actually, I never think about it, I just do what I am supposed to.
"We are doing well, the batters and bowlers are all doing their job. I personally have been training hard. Twenty20 is all about quickness and I am working at that."
