HC clean chit to Pawar in IPL case

HC clean chit to Pawar in IPL case

The Bombay High Court gave a clean chit to Union Minister Sharad Pawar in the PIL regarding levy of entertainment tax on IPL.

The petitioner, Shiv Sena MLA Subhash Desai had alleged that because of Pawar's association with the BCCI, the state government did not impose the tax on this year's IPL.

The court, however, observed, "there is nothing on record," to show that Pawar influenced the decision to grant exemption.

As the state government has now decided to impose the tax on the IPL matches from next year, the High court disposed off the PIL.

The court rejected the petitioner's demand that tax be collected retrospectively from the IPL.
