Bids- As they happened on Saturday

There was some frentic bidding for Gambhir, who was eventually picked up by the Knight Riders. Delhi, Pune, Kochi and RCB pursued the Indian southpaw rather aggressively but lost out to a determined team from Kolkata. The tone is set for the weekend. Expect some major bids along the way.

KKR returned to steal the thunder from Kochi who went hell for leather after Yusuf Pathan. The Knightriders were just as proactive, and kept the heat on Kochi to pocket the destructive batsman from Baroda.

Nobody would have expected Ganguly to go unsold but his former employers, KKR seemed least interested. They however bagged another big fish to walk away with Kallis fetching some big money.

Rohit Sharma was the third Indian player to earn a purse of US$2 million when the Mumbai Indians went all out to get their local lad. The elegant right-handed batsman, who played with the Deccan Chargers for the first three editions, has been a key performer in the Indian Premier League despite his poor form with the Indian team.

Uthappa, who started from US$ 200,000, saw his stakes rocket beyond the US$2 million mark when RCB found their match in the Delhi Daredevils. Kochi and Pune, who entered the bid late, also helped the Bangalore batsman's cause. However, given Uthappa's explosive performances in the IPL for Bangalore, this was hardly a surprise.

Vettori turned out to be a terrific buy for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, who got the New Zealand left-arm spinner and skipper for a meagre US$ 550,000. It was more of a surprise after the far lesser experienced Johan Botha fetched US$ 950,000 with the Rajasthan Royals.

Saurabh Tiwary from Jharkhand, who started with a base price of US$ 100,000 walked away with a sensational US$1.6 million. However, there was some drama just as the hammer was about to come down for RCB. Kings' XI Punjab made a very late bid and there seemed to be some confusion as Vijay Mallya objected after the auctioneer accepted Punjab's  late bid.

There are some very bizarre bids on in Bangalore. Kolkata made a good invest in Haddin while the likes of Ryder, Mike Hussey and Brian Lara remained unsold. Karthik was snapped up by Punjab for a princely US$ 900,000.

David Warner returned to the fold for the Daredevils, bagging US$ 750,000.

David Jacobs went to Mumbai for US$ 190,000. It almost seemed like they were sucked into paying Jacobs far more than his base price of US$ 20,000 by the Royal Challengers Bangalore- they just went on bidding till they decided enough was enough. Nita Ambani certainly did not look very comfortable going for the final bid.

Muralitharan took home a whooping US$1.1 million while Chawla did his reputation no harm, earning US$ 900,000 for a return ticket to Kings' XI Punjab. Regular India spinners, Ojha and Mishra had to settle with much less while Graeme Swann and Ajantha Mendis had to go unsold.

KKR made two successful biddings to take on board Eoin Morgan and Manoj Tiwary. Explosive left-handed Bangladeshi batsman, Tamim Iqbal went unsold even as Brad Hodge looked set to ink a US$ 425,000 deal with Kochi.
