IPL dope scandal: PCB distances itself

The PCB has distanced itself from the IPL dope scandal and said that they were unaware about the involvement of any player from Pakistan.

"Right now we are not in the picture at all. Because this positive test is purely an internal matter of the IPL and the Indian cricket Board. And so far we have not been told by anyone that any of our players might be involved," the Indian media quoted a PCB official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi has confirmed that the sample of a player, taken during the league, had tested positive in the first instance. The name of the cricketer will be announced on Monday.

Speculation is rife that that the player is a fast bowler from the subcontinent. Of the Pakistan pacers, who featured in the IPL, Umar Gul and Mohammad Asif were subjected to tests.

The positive test of the sample is the first step of the verification process and there are several stages before a player is deemed to have failed the test.

The IPL will now match the identity of the player with the sample. Next, the player's form, filled out before the match, will be scrutinised for any pre-declared or prescribed drug and if that matches the drug found in the sample, the matter ends there.

If not, the player would be informed and a 'B' sample will be sent for testing and if that also returns positive, the matter will be taken up by the IPL's drugs tribunal.
