Asif shrugs off drug reports

Pakistan paceman Mohammad Asif has distanced himself from the drug scandal which has hit the Indian Premier League.

IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has confirmed that a player tested positive for a banned substance during the first edition of the tournament, but did not reveal who it was.

Media reports on the subcontinent were quick to speculate the player involved was Delhi Daredevils bowler Asif, who was detained at the Dubai International Airport last month on suspicion of carrying drugs while returning home from the IPL.

Asif, however, has denied any knowledge.

"I don't know anything about it. I have received no information or official communication on the matter," said Asif.

"As far as I am aware, no names have been revealed. The World Anti-Doping Agency also hasn't revealed any names."

Asif faced no charges in Dubai after being deported when the public prosecutor dropped the case citing "insignificance".

The International Cricket Council said in a statement on Sunday that it had been informed of an adverse analytical finding by WADA's accredited laboratory which had conducted the tests.

Modi later confirmed the IPL had received a letter from the Swiss laboratory but said the positive test had not yet been confirmed by the B sample.
