India vs SL, 4th ODI: Stats highlights

A look at the statistical highlights of the fourth ODI between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo on Wednesday.

- India, for the first time, have won three ODIs in succession against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka - by 3 wickets at Dambulla on August 20; by 33 runs at Colombo, RPS on August 24 and by 46 runs at Colombo, RPS on August 27.

- India's series triumph by 3-1 margin is their first bilateral series win against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka (since August 1985).

- Sri Lanka, for the first time, have lost two successive bilateral home series in Sri Lanka. They had lost to England by 2-3 in 2007-08.

- Since their 5-0 clean sweep against South Africa in 2004, Sri Lanka's only bilateral series win had come against Bangladesh in 2007.

- With Yuvraj Singh's wicket, Chaminda Vaas became the fourth bowler after Wasim Akram (502 in 356 matches), Muttiah Muralitharan (479 in 314) and Waqar Younis (416 in 262) to complete 400 wickets or more in ODIs.

- Vaas (2008 runs + 400 wickets in 322 matches) is now the fourth all-rounder to complete the double of 2000 runs and 300 wickets in ODIs - the other three being Sanath Jayasuriya (12784 runs + 310 wickets in 420 matches), Wasim Akram (3717 runs + 502 wickets in 356 matches) and Shaun Pollock (3519 runs + 393 wickets in 303 matches)

- Vaas' feat of capturing 400 wickets in 322 games is the slowest in ODIs. The record is held by Waqar Younis, who took only 252 matches to accomplish the feat, followed by Muttiah Muralitharan (263) and Wasim Akram (285).

- The 44-run stand between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli is the best opening partnership of the present series, bettering the 39 by the same pair at Colombo, RPS on August 24,2008.

- Kohli (54 off 66 balls) posted his maiden fifty in ODIs, eclipsing his previous highest of 37 against Sri Lanka at Dambulla on August 20, 2008.

- Yuvraj Singh registered his 11th duck in ODIs - his second against Sri Lanka.

- Yuvraj's batting average of 29.00 is his worst in seven calendar years. His calendar-year average in ODIs has been 21.66 in 2000; 23.80 in 2001; 36.61 in 2002; 31.57 in 2003; 30.03 in 2004; 41.95 in 2005; 53.06 in 2006; 45.96 in 2007 and 29.00 in 2008 so far.

- Yuvraj is without a fifty in his last 9 innings.

- Mahendra Singh Dhoni, during the course of his innings of 71 became the leading run-getter in the calendar year 2008 - 954 at an average of 68.14 in 23 games, including one century and seven fifties, bettering Gautam Gambhir's aggregate of 933 at an average of 49.10 in 22 matches.

- Dhoni's 24th fifty (71 off 80 balls) is his 7th against Sri Lanka.

- The aforesaid fifty is Dhoni's 10th as captain in 35 ODIs. As captain, Dhoni has averaged 57.17 - 1315, including one century and ten fifties. When not captain, he has averaged 44.23 - 2477 in 84 games, including three centuries and 14 fifties.

- Suresh Raina's seventh ODI fifty is his third against Sri Lanka.

- Suresh Raina's 76 off 78 balls is his highest score against Sri Lanka, eclipsing his 54 at Karachi on July 3, 2008.

- Raina and Dhoni put on 143 for the fourth wicket - India's best partnership for this wicket-position against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, bettering the 117 between Rahul Dravid and Mohammad Azharuddin at Colombo, RPS on 18.7.1997.

- The aforesaid stand is India's second best against Sri Lanka for the fourth wicket, next only to the 145 (unbroken) between Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh at Visakhapatnam on February 17, 2007.

- Suresh Raina has batted splendidly this year, aggregating 569 at an average of 51.72 in 13 ODIs, including two centuries and four fifties (strike rate 96.44).

- Thilan Thushara (5/47) produced his career-best bowling figures, outstripping his 2 for 22 against UAE at Lahore on June 26,2008.

- Thushara became the first Sri Lankan bowler to claim five wickets in an innings against India in Sri Lanka, eclipsing Sanath Jayasuriya's figures of 4 for 18 at Colombo, SSC on July 1, 1998.

- Overall, Thushara is the fifth Sri Lankan to bag five wickets or more in an innings against India, joining Muralitharan (7/30 at Sharjah on October 27,2000); Mendis (6/13 at Karachi on July 6,2008); Vaas (5/14 at Sharjah on October 29, 2000) and Graeme Labrooy (5/57 at Baroda on January 15,1987).

- Thushara became the second Sri Lankan to claim five wickets and score 40 runs in the same ODI. Sanath Jayasuriya (44 + 5 for 58 against West Indies at Port of Spain on 6.6.1997) was the first to accomplish the double.

- Ajantha Mendis, with 29 wickets at 11.96 runs apiece in 12 matches, has equalled Nathan Bracken's tally of 29 wickets at 17.41 runs apiece in 15 ODIs this year.

- Jayasuriya and Warnapura put on 28 runs for the first wicket - Sri Lanka's highest opening partnership against India in 8 innings.

- In their last 28 innings, a Sri Lankan opening pair is without a stand of fifty or more against India in ODIs.

- Kumar Sangakkara (6) is without a fifty in his last six innings. His sequence of scores has been 7, 4, 19, 2, 9 & 6 - all against India.

- Sanath Jayasuriya, after posting 67 against India at Colombo, RPS on August 9, 2005, recorded his first fifty in three years in Sri Lanka.

- Jayasuriya's 60 off 52 balls is his 66th fifty - his 13th against India.

- Jayasuriya became the first batsman to aggregate 2,500 runs against India - 2525 at an average of 36.59 in 78 games, including six centuries and 13 fifties.

- Dhoni top-scored in the series - 192 runs at an average of 48.00, including two fifties.

- For Sri Lanka, Mahela Jayawardene was the leading run-getter in the series - 173 at an average of 57.66, including two fifties.

- Thushara, with 10 wickets (ave.13.30) was the leading wicket-taker in the series, followed by Ajantha Mendis (9) and Zaheer Khan(8).

- Suresh Raina's first Man of the Match award against Sri Lanka is his fifth in ODIs.

- Raina has got four MOM awards in 2008.
