Ministry refuses to ratify Lankan team

Sports minister Gamini Lokuge has refused to ratify the Sri Lanka team selected for a four-nation T20 tournament in Toronto.

Sri Lanka are due to participate in the tournament, featuring hosts Canada, Pakistan and Zimbabwe, between October 10 and 13.

Lokuge refused to endorse the selection as Sri Lankan Cricket had not named a manager for the team.

Lokuge has also asked selectors to reconsider their choice of personnel after Sixes captain and wicketkeeper-batsman Indika De Saram complained that he was overlooked.

Sri Lanka's regular wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara is recovering from a finger surgery and was not considered for the tournament.

The selectors chose not to pick a specialist wicketkeeper and instead named part-time wicketkeeper Tillekaratne Dilshan.

"I found that his (de Saram) name was not in the list for the Canada tournament when the list came for my approval," Lokuge was quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.

"I will take up the issue with the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) selection panel."
