Lankan minister approves team

Sri Lanka Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge has ratified a squad for the four-nation Twenty20 tournament in Toronto.

The squad was presented to the minister for approval last week, but Lokuge had refused to endorse the team as it did not name a manager.

Lokuge had also instructed the selection committee to look into the complaint of wicketkeeper batsman Indika de Saram, who in a letter to the minister said he was overlooked.

The team approved by the minister, however, does not include Indika.

Nishantha Ranatunga, brother to Sri Lanka Cricket's interim committee chief Arjuna Ranatunga, was named manager of the team.

The squad, however, does not include team masseur Lal Thammel and computer analyst Nalin de Alwis, who were both named in list submitted by the selection committee.

Squad: Mahela Jayawardene (captain), Sanath Jayasuriya, Mahela Udawatte, Chamara Kapugedera, Jehan Mubarak, Thilina Kandamby, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Farveez Maharoof, Thilan Thushara, Nuwan Kulasekera, Ajantha Mendis, Dilhara Fernando, Jeevantha Kulatunga, Dilhara Lokuhettige, Kaushalya Weeraratne.

On standby: Dhammika Prasad, Rangana Herath, Indika de Saram, Angelo Mathews, Upul Tharanga.
