Rain forces early end to play
On a day that belonged to Michael Hussey, rain had the last word on day two of the first Test at Bangalore on Friday.
STUMPS
India end day two at 68 without loss with Virender Sehwag on 43 and Gautam Gambhir on 20. India trail Australia's first innings total of 430 by 362 runs and need 163 more to avoid the follow on. But the day truly belonged to Michael Hussey, who cracked his ninth Test hundred. Mr Cricket hit 146 and was the last man to fall for the visitors. Zaheer Khan picked up the last three wickets in a space of 14 runs to complete his five-wicket haul, while Ishant impressed with four wickets.
HOW THE ACTION UNFOLDED!Afternoon Session:
Michael Hussey continues to dominate as he brings up his ninth Test hundred. At the other end, Brett Lee is putting up some strong resistance after Ishant sent back Brad Haddin and Cameron White in quick succession. It's been a power-packed performance by Hussey, just what his team ordered. Ishant has looked like the only bowler in a rhythm, the others have left a lot to be desired. At tea, Australia are 416 for seven.
Morning Session:
Hussey, overnight on 46, and Shane Watson stride out into the middle, Zaheer Khan starts the proceedings. Ishant comes all fired up from the other end, tests the batsmen and gets the wicket of Watson. He had no clue where the ball came from - it was fast and low and Watson could not get his bat down on time. Hussey is playing a gem of a knock. At lunch, Australia are 333 for five.
Pre-Match
Hello and welcome to our coverage of the second day's play in the first Test between India and Sri Lanka at Bangalore on Friday.
Australia won the toss and elected to bat. Zaheer Khan sent back Matthew Hayden in the first over, but then Ricky Ponting and Simon Katich put together a 166-run stand to snuff any hopes of a top order collapse. Ponting went to complete his first Test hundred in India. At stumps Australia were 254 for four. Katich said the team was looking to put a 400 plus total on the board.
The Indian bowlers, who bowled with the second new ball for three overs on Thursday, have their job cut out. This should be a fascinating day of cricket.
