PCA look forward to Sachin record
The Punjab Cricket Association is rejoicing at the prospect of Sachin Tendulkar breaking Brian Lara's record in Mohali.
Tendulkar, who is just 15 runs short of breaking Lara's record of most Test runs is widely expected to achieve the milestone in the second Test starting from October 17.
"It will be a great honour for us, no doubt and a feather in our cap," said PCA secretary, M P Pandove.
Tendulkar needs just 15 runs to break Brian Lara's record Test aggregate of 11,953 runs.
PCA's chief curator Daljit Singh still remembers the only ton (126 not out) which Tendulkar got in a drawn Test on this ground in October 1999 versus New Zealand and how brilliantly he had played.
"He is a remarkable batsman and simply unparalleled. I also remember when Sachin was not in good form about 5-6 years back. He came here and got 300 runs in 3 matches in the Challenger Series. He is a treat to watch and definitely if he gets those 15 runs, which he will get no doubt, it will be great for all the Indians and especially for us at PCA," Singh said.
Meanwhile, PCA's statistician Rakesh Sanghi said Tendulkar had played seven Tests here scoring 459 runs which also included a century and three half centuries at a batting average of 51.
"He got 55 against New Zealand in 2003, 94 versus Pakistan in 2005 and 88 against England in 2001. In the last Test played here in 2006 which was against England, he managed to score just 4 runs," he said.
The Australians, on the other hand, are playing a Test for the first time in Mohali.
