Ashraful rues batting displays
Bangladesh's Mohammad Ashraful feels two poor batting displays cost his side a one-day series win against New Zealand.
The Black Caps wrapped up the three-match series 2-1 in Chittagong on Tuesday with a century to Ross Taylor and 73 from Jamie How coupled with a good bowling display from Kyle Mills, Jacob Oram and Jeetan Patel giving the visitors a 79-run win.
As in the second match, losing early wickets saw the Bangladeshi batsman retreat into their shells, content to bat out the 50 overs rather than chase the target, largely undoing the good work of their bowlers Mashrafe Mortaza and Shakib Al Hasan who had restricted New Zealand to 249 for seven.
"Our bowlers bowled well all three games but our batsmen didn't really back them up and that's why we lost the games," captain Ashraful told Sky Sports.
"Our plan was to bat 50 overs and at the 20-over mark have 80 runs on the board with only one or two wickets down. But we lost too many wickets in the first 20 overs.
"We are very disappointed because we felt we had a very good chance last weekend to win the series."
New Zealand have also struggled with the bat in all three matches relying on individuals - Oram in the first two games and Taylor and How in the third - to dig them out of holes.
But man-of-the-series Oram insists the players can take some heart from the one-day series win as they move into the first Test which starts in Chittagong on Friday.
"We got better and better (as the series went on) and that was always going to happen after three months lay-off and coming to foreign conditions.
"It was good to see guys slowly getting into some form so hopefully that continues for the Test series."
