PCA ground flooded ahead of second Test

Gale and heavy rains in the early hours on Wednesday affected ground preparations for the second India-Australia Test.

The ground was left flooded ahead of the second Test between India and Australia beginning from Friday.

"The sudden change in weather has somewhat affected our preparations. Our covers were blown up and outfield was left flooded," Chairman of BCCI Grounds and Pitches Committee and PCA curator Daljit Singh told PTI.

He said the practice pitches were also left wet though luckily "the match wicket was saved".

"We are putting in our best efforts to give a good wicket for the upcoming game," Singh said.

"The north westerly gale which lasted for over 30 minutes had maximum wind speed of 76 kmph. It was accompanied by heavy rains and hailstorm," Director of the Chandigarh-based Meteorological Department Chattar Singh said.

The positive side was that a bright sun shine had come out during the day today raising hopes that the weather was holding good, Daljit said.

However, Chattar Singh said there were a few weather systems that were active over the region which could again result in a few spell of rains until tomorrow.

"There was a Western Disturbance over north J and K and neighbourhood, north-east Afghanistan and adjoining north Pakistan. An induced Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation lied over Central Pak and adjoining south west Punjab," he said.

Daljit had yesterday said that heavy monsoon rains that lasted until two weeks back may affect the bouncy nature of the Mohali track but seamers sticking to good line and length can expect to trouble the batsmen.
