Shakib hits Kiwis for six
Shakib Al Hasan claimed six wickets as New Zealand's batsmen were put to the sword by Bangladesh on day two of the first Test.
The hosts had earlier set a modest total of 245 at the Chittagong Divisional Stadium but only Daniel Vettori offered any resistance as the Black Caps collapsed to 155 for nine at stumps.
Vettori was unbeaten on 48 and he will shoulder the responsibility on Sunday as the tourists aim to quickly rattle off some of the 90 runs needed to level Bangladesh's first-innings total.
Aaron Redmond's 19 was the best score the Kiwis' top order could manage as Shakib claimed the wickets of both New Zealand openers and third man Jesse Ryder.
Jamie How was the first man to fall to Shakib for 16, Rajin Saleh taking the catch at silly point, while Ryder was Shakib's next victim just two overs later as Saleh - this time at short leg - again held on.
Ross Taylor lasted just 22 deliveries and added 12 to the tourists' total before he was trapped lbw by Abdur Razzak to leave New Zealand floundering on 46 for three.
And Redmond's laborious 65-ball 19 was brought to an end just three overs later when left-arm spinner Shakib trapped him in front.
The Kiwis struggled to 57 for four at tea, and things did not get any easier in the final session of the day as the hosts continued to pull the strings.
Daniel Flynn added 19 to the Black Caps' total but then edged Naeem Islam's delivery to wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim.
And Shakib struck again to remove Brendon McCullum for 25, the New Zealander slicing to Razzak at mid on.
Jacob Oram, who had performed heroics to spare New Zealand's blushes in the recent one-day series, was back in the pavilion four balls later for a duck when he miscued Shakib's delivery into the hands of Mashrafe Mortaza.
Vettori was single-handedly keeping New Zealand's tally ticking over, but he could only watch on as the wickets tumbled at the other end.
Kyle Mills (four) became Shakib's sixth victim with another fine edge to Rahim behind the stumps.
And Jeehan Patel fell in the last over of the day, pulling his shot from Mohammad Ashraful's ball to Shakib in the field.
It marked a fitting end to a stunning day for Shakib, who finished with figures of six for 31 to put Bangladesh in control.
Earlier in the day, Vettori claimed five wickets as Bangladesh added just 62 runs to their overnight total of 183 for four.
Bangladesh could not build on the platform provided by Mehrab Hossain and Mushfiqur Rahim's unbeaten partnership of 139 on Friday as Vettori picked up three wickets in the morning session to finish with figures of five for 59.
Hossain and Rahim added just five more runs to their effort as the former departed for 83.
Iain O'Brien picked up his third wicket with a slower ball that Hossain drove straight to Redmond at short cover.
Rahim was next to go on 79 as he top-edged a sweep that How pouched at short fine leg to give spinner Vettori his first success of the morning.
The Black Caps skipper picked up a second victim just three balls later as Mortaza (0) offered up a catch to Ryder close on the onside to leave Bangladesh reeling on 229 for eight.
Razzak became Vettori's fifth scalp of the innings when he edged to McCullum behind the stumps for 11 before Patel wrapped up the hosts' effort when Vettori caught Shakib (5) at mid-on.
