WI demand USD 1 mn to play Tests
The West Indies Cricket Board have demanded USD 1 million from Pakistan to play two unscheduled Tests in Abu Dhabi next month.
"We have got an e-mail from the WICB outlining the financial aspects of the two Tests. We are keen to play the Tests and are exploring avenues to raise this money," said a PCB official.Sources said the PCB had already got in touch with the Dubai-based TEN sports channel to purchase rights for the series as they are already showing the three one-dayers which Pakistan and West Indies will play prior to the Tests in Abu Dhabi from November 12.
"There is a proposal that the West Indies team also be asked to play one Twenty20 match so that the series can be sold as a package besides the one-dayers," one source said.
PCB Chairman Ejaz Butt has said he was keen to have the two Tests as it would provide exposure to the Pakistani players and prepare them for the coming series against India.
"If no teams are willing to come to Pakistan for security reasons there is no harm in going and playing our Tests at offshore venues," Butt said.
But he had made it clear that the PCB would first have to work out all financial details of the series as it could not bear to intake a heavy loss on the series.
