Alam: I've been offered Pakistan job

Former Pakistan captain Intikhab Alam claims he has been offered a two-year contract to become the new coach of Pakistan.

The Pakistan Cricket Board will formally announce the appointment next month, according to 66-year-old.

"Yes, chairman Ijaz Butt has talked to me and offered a contract for two years. They will officially announce it next month," said Alam.

The former all-rounder's first matches at the helm would be November's one-day international series against West Indies at the neutral venue of Abu Dhabi.

The length of Alam's contract with the PCB is likely be determined next week, with conflicting reports as to whether the appointment will indeed be for two years or will be short term with the search continuing for a permanent successor to Lawson.

The PCB were unavailable for comment when contacted.

Alam appeared in 47 Tests for Pakistan and coached the nation to World Cup glory in 1992.
