Bedi seen helping Aussie spinners

Former India skipper Bishan Singh Bedi was Sunday seen helping the Australian spinners in the nets ahead of the third Test.

By Shreyas Sharma

Bedi, a former left-arm spinner spent some time with the Australian team, attending to spinner Jason Krejza in particular. Krejza, according to sources has been tipped to feature in the Austraian team for the third Test at Feroz Shah Kotla. Skipper Ricky Ponting is banking on the offie to draw inspiration from the team's recent Taj Mahal visit and deliver a blow to the iIndian batsmen with some turn.

Bedi, spoke to the waiting media at the DDCA ground, where the Aussies were training and said not much should be read into his presence in the Aussie camp.

"Don't make an issue out of it. I was just there with the Australians, trying to give them some tips."

"I did work with Krejza for a bit. I just shared some cricketing thoughts the Australians. That is it. 40 minutes is not long enough to teach anything to anyone."

Bedi refused to agree that the Australian spinners were under par: "Anybody picked to play for Australia cannot be under par."

However, Bedi did say that the Aussie spinners lacked guile, turn and flight in their stock.

The outspoken Bedi is known to have a soft spot for Australia because of close family connections, so much so that he donned an Aussie cap all the time he was with the visiting team.

He also praised leg spinner Cameron White, saying the leggie was a good player.

Bedi was not too keen on reading much into Amit Mishra's sensational debut, where he bagged five for 71 in the second Test in Mohali: "We have all seen before what has happened to spinners who took five wickets on debut."

Meanwhile, by the look of things at the nets, it appears that pacer Stuart Clark will continue to sit out of the team for the Delhi Test. He did come to bowl but walked off the ground after sending down only one over.

The crucial third Test between India and Australia begins from October 29.
