Delhi Test set to see records tumble
The third Test between India and Australia might see some history being created with players nearing milestones.
Harbhajan Singh is doubtful for the Delhi Test starting Wednesday thanks to a toe injury but if he eventually is declared fit to play, he will for sure bag his 300th Test wicket. It would indeed mark a long journey if one looks back at the historic Indian summer of 2001 where Bhajji announced his arrival in world cricket against the same opponents.
He would become the third Indian bowler after Anil Kumble and Kapil Dev to enter the 300 wicket club.
Another Indian legend Rahul Dravid needs to pouch five catches to break Mark Waugh's record of most catches, 181.
Sachin Tendulkar (99) needs just one catch to complete a century of catches and to become the fifth Indian fielder to achieve the feat. Rahul Dravid (177) is the leading Indian fielder, followed by Sunil Gavaskar (108), Mohammad Azharuddin (105) and VVS Laxman (105).
Tendulkar requires just one hundred to become the first batsman to complete 40 Test centuries as well as the second to record 10 centuries against Australia. England's Jack Hobbs holds the record for most hundreds (12) against Australia. Both Tendulkar and Gavaskar have recorded 16 centuries each in India. If Tendulkar posts another hundred, he would set a record for most Test hundreds (17) in India.
VVS Laxman (1877 runs in 22 Tests) needs 123 runs to become the second batsman after Tendulkar (2512 in 27) to amass 2000 runs or more in India-Australia Tests.
Brett Lee may have had a lean patch in the series so far but a strong comeback at the Kotla would see him sitting pretty in the 300 wicket club as well.
Lee (293 wickets in 70) needs seven wickets to complete his 300 wickets in Test Cricket to become the fourth Australian after Shane Warne (708), Glenn McGrath (563) and Dennis Lillee (355) to achieve the distinction.
So, all is set for a dramatic encounter between two of the fiercest rivals in world cricket. The records sure look like tumbling.
