Arjuna lauds Kumble legacy

Former Sri Lankan captain Arjuna Ranatunga has heaped praises on Anil Kumble after the leg spinner announced his retirement.

Lavishing praise on the retired Indian Test captain, the Sri Lanka Cricket chairman Monday said the veteran leg-spinner's fighting spirit and dignified conduct makes him an ideal role model for youngsters.

"If Kumble was born in Australia or England, he would have got much more prominence in world cricket considering his superb record in both forms of the game," Ranatunga said in a statement, paying tribute to the 38-year-old who announced his retirement yesterday.

"Kumble is definitely the best role model for any youngster entering the game" he added, wishing him a happy retired life.

Ranatunga said he expects Kumble to stay in touch with the game and help lift the standard of Indian cricket.
