Hat-Trick of ODI centuries
All eyes are on Yuvraj today as he takes centre stage at Kanpur. He is looking to achieve his third ODI century in a row.
Three batsmen have scored three ODI centuries in a row to date - the Pakistan pair of Zaheer Abbas (1982-83) and Saeed Anwar (1993-94), as well as Herschelle Gibbs of South Africa, who made three in a row in 2002-03, two in Colombo and one at home in South Africa.
Here is a closer look at the pool of players who have achieved the monumental task of three back-to-back ODI centuries.
Zaheer Abbas - 118 from 86 balls at Multan on December 17, 1982, 105 from 82 balls at Lahore on December 31, 1982, and 113 from 99 balls at Karachi on January 21, 1983. In his next ODI, against Sri Lanka in the 1983 World Cup at Swansea, he made 82.
Saeed Anwar - One of the most prolific batsman in the word of cricket then followed Zaheer Abbas ten years later with hundreds for Pakistan against Sri Lanka and the West Indies in the 1993/94 Champions Trophy in Sharjah . His scores read: 107 of 108 balls against Pakistan in Sharjah on October 30, 1993, 131 of 141 balls against the West Indies also at Sharjah on November 1, 1993 and a 111 of a 104 balls against Sri Lanka on the November 2, 1993.
Hersechelle Gibbs - He came close to being the only batsman to have scored four ODI hundreds in a row in 2002. South Africa were set 155 for victory and Gibbs fell just three runs short, finishing unbeaten on 97 against the Bangladeshis. This was after he had scored three centuries leading before this knock. The other hundreds included 116 of 126 balls against Kenya on September 20, 2002 in Colombo, another 116 of 119 balls against India on December 25, 2002 and a 153 of 131 balls against Bangladesh on October 3, 2002 at Potchefstroom.
Yuvraj Singh could be the next in line to enter this prestigious group of players. He is currently averaging 55.78 and is looking to bag his third century.
