Former Pakistan captains condemned the Mumbai terror attacks describing such events as damaging for international sports.

Former skipper Wasim Akram said he was terrified to see the terror events unfold in Mumbai since Wednesday night.

"It is so terrifying to watch, so I can imagine what the people caught in the middle of these attacks must have felt," he said.

Wasim said there was no doubt that the growing incidents of terror attacks had adversely affected international cricket activities.

"But I think cricket is not that important what is important is first peoples lives must be safeguarded. Unless there is proper security and safety guaranteed for players and officials I can understand reluctance of teams to play in such conditions," he said.

He said the reaction of the England, Australia and South African cricket authorities to the Mumbai attacks was not surprising and the authorities had taken the right decision to call off events for now.

Javed Miandad who is the director general of the Pakistan cricket Board described the terror act as "shocking" and said he was extremely saddened to see the events in Mumbai.

"It is really very shocking and sad. These events only highlight the need for authorities to take the top most security arrangements even for cricket events now," he said.

Another former captain, Rashid Latif said unless conditions improved in the subcontinent it would be difficult to have international cricket commitments properly.
