ACA wants compensation
The Assam Cricket Association is likely to ask the BCCI for compensation for the Guwahati ODI that never took place.
India and England were supposed to play the sixth ODI of the series in Guwahati but the terror attacks in Mumbai forced the visitors to return home mid-way.
The ACA has reportedly incurred huge losses and as much was confirmed to espnstar.com by Bikas Baruah, the honorary secretary of the association.
"We have incurred a loss of about USD 80,380 and will send the proposal to the BCCI to compensate the loss". The insurance company has also refused to compensate the loss. " We had insured the match for USD 160,760 with the National Insurance Company but have received the letter from the insurance company saying " extremist problems " for hosting the match was not in Guwahati and therefore unable to settle the claim ," he further said.
The ACA had apparently spent a huge sum for the general preparation that generally goes with the hosting of an ODI and the association now fears the entire money might have gone waste unless the BCCI decides to compensate.
"Our relations with the insurance company are extremely good and may get the refund of the premium (after deducting the service charge) but that amount is nothing in comparison with the amount we have spent towards sponsorship, ground and wicket preparations, fencing of the stadium and preparations of the two dressing rooms," he added.
The ticket money has also been refunded to the buyers, according to Baruah.
The ACA is also understood to request the BCCI to award the next possible match with the "best team" in the world.
