India win Chennai Test, Sachin blasts ton

Sachin Tendulkar brought up a brilliant ton as India registered a historic Test win at the Chepauk in Chennai, beating England by six wickets.

India win by six wickets

India have notched up a sensational win in Chennai in the first Test against England, thanks to a brilliant century by Tendulkar and fifties by Sehwag, Yuvraj and Gambhir. This is the fourth highest run chase in the history of Test cricket.

No one would have given India any chance to win the Test after England set India 387 runs to win, with a little over four sessions of play left. However, Sehwag ripped the England attack apart to blast 83 runs off 68 balls to lay a foundation for the historic win.

Tea, India are 304 for four

India are romping home for a historic win in Chennai, riding high on Tendulkar and Yuvraj. The hosts need just 83 runs in the final session to win the first Test and chase down the fourth highest score to win a Test.

Lunch, India 213 for three

India lost Dravid and Gambhir in the morning session but are well on the path to a victory with Tendulkar and Laxman looking confident and solid in the middle. Flintoff has been the only bowler who has looked threatning with his seamers. Spinners Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar have hardly caused any scares for the Indians. The latter has been bowling rather negative lines, either round the pads or way outside the off stump.

If Tendulkar and Laxman stay on for an hour and a half after lunch, history could be in the making.

The first session has yielded 82 runs at the cost of two wickets.
