Moores won't write Harmison off

Peter Moores insisted Steve Harmison could still have a future with England after being dropped from the Mohali Test.

The 30-year-old Durham fast bowler was replaced by Stuart Broad in England's line-up at the PCA Stadium having delivered a lacklustre display in the opening Test defeat at Chennai when he was given just six overs on the final day by captain Kevin Pietersen.

"It doesn't mean Steve isn't going to be England's premier strike bowler again and he's not going to play in the next Test - it just means that in the short series here we've picked the 11 blokes that we think are best for the job," said Moores.

Opener Gautam Gambhir, who hit 12 fours and a six in his unbeaten 106 as India closed on 179 for one, admitted he was not surprised to see Broad in England's line-up.

Gambhir said: "I think Broad bowled really well, especially on this kind of track.

"He was the only wicket-taker in the entire day and I think he was the most impressive bowler."
