PCB asks Lanka to confirm itineary

The PCB has asked its Sri Lankan counterpart to confirm the final itinerary for their forthcoming tour of Pakistan.

Sri Lankan cricket officials had first confirmed a tour of Pakistan from January 20 to play three Tests and five one-day internationals but now they want a shortened tour of two Tests, three ODIs and a Twenty20 game from February 15.

Their revised demand means that Pakistan has to adjust its confirmed tour to Bangladesh from March 3 to play five one-day internationals there.

"We have spoken to the Bangladesh officials and they say they will consider revising dates for our tour to Bangladesh but first they have asked us to confirm the Sri Lankan team's tour," a senior Pakistan Cricket Board official said.

Lanka request new tour revision

There is a growing feeling in Pakistani cricket circles that Sri Lankan officials are delaying finalising the itinerary for no rhyme or reason. There is also a fear that media reports about the Indian board allegedly pressurising the Sri Lankans not to tour Pakistan could be true.

"Look, I don't think there is any truth in these media reports concerning the Indian board but we have asked Sri Lanka to confirm the revised itinerary as soon as possible so that we can start working on the logistical details of the series," the official said.

"So it is just a wait-and-watch situation for us because we are keen to finalise all aspects of the tour including the itinerary and monetary details," he said.

Pakistan invited Sri Lanka for the home series after India had cancelled their scheduled tour to Pakistan from January 4 due to the escalation of tensions between the two countries after the Mumbai terror attacks.
