World stars ready for battle
The world's best are set to do battle in the ICC Women's World Cup after the final four squads were confirmed today.
With England's final party of 15 already named, along with larger groups from the West Indies, South Africa and India, the remaining participants - Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka - have finalised their provisional squads.
The selection of Australia's Lisa Sthalekar means each of the top three ODI batters in women's cricket will be present, with Claire Taylor of England and India's Mithali Raj already confirmed for the event, which takes place between March 7 and March 22.
The 2006 ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year, Australia's Karen Rolton, has also been named, and looks set to compete with the likes of England's Charlotte Edwards, New Zealand's Haidee Tiffin, South Africa's Alicia Smith, Sajida Shah of Pakistan and Dedunu Silva and Shashikala Siriwardena of Sri Lanka.
The World Cup takes place at six venues across New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and sees two groups of four play for a place in the Super Six stage before the final.
Australia, New Zealand, the West Indies and South Africa are in Group A while India, England, Sri Lanka and Pakistan are in Group B.
Sides must name their final squad of 15 at least 30 days prior to their first match.
