
India announce probables for WC
Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami figure among a list of 30 women players in the Indian provisional squad for this year's World Cup.
Other notable members of the Indian provisional squad include Anjum Chopra, Latika Kumari and Rumeli Dhar, according to the list submitted in October last and released today by the ICC.
The best in women's cricket have been named in the provisional squads of the other countries also.
According to participating rules in ICC events, the teams have to submit their provisional squads 60 days prior to the start of the tournament while the teams are expected to name their final 15-player squads 30 days before the first match.
India, England, South Africa and the West Indies, which submitted its 15-player squad in October, has no ODIs planned in lead up to the tournament while Australia and New Zealand will make final touches to their preparations by playing in the Rose Bowl Series in New Zealand from 1 to 12 February.
The ICC Women's World Cup 2009 will see the world's top eight teams - hosts and holders Australia, along with England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies - compete at six venues across New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory (ACT).
All the eight teams will be divided into two groups of four each. Australia, New Zealand, the West Indies and South Africa are clubbed in Group A while India, England, Sri Lanka and Pakistan find themselves in Group B. The top three sides in each group will progress to the Super Six stage where each side will play against the teams which have qualified from the other group and then the top two sides from the Super Six make it to the final of the tournament.
