"CA wrong despite Lahore attacks"
Former Pakistan coach Geoff Lawson is standing by his criticism of CA for pulling out of a tour to the country last year.
Lawson claimed Cricket Australia (CA) had over-reacted in pulling out of a tour to Pakistan in early 2008 after receiving security advice warning the country was not safe for travel.
The ex-Australia fast bowler expressed his disappointment at the time, rejecting claims cricketers could be targeted by terrorist organisations.
Although he conceded the landscape has now changed after the Sri Lanka team bus was fired upon by a group of gunmen outside Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium, he does not believe CA made an informed decision a year ago.
Repurcussions of Lahore attack
"I was critical of the process they used to get there (to their decision). I didn't think they were particularly well informed and certainly their security people didn't seem to do a thorough assessment," Lawson told the ABC.
"They were giving the answers that they wanted to hear. I am more critical of the process.
"The players and Cricket Australia have always got decisions to make. They make their own calls but until I heard the news (from Lahore) I still felt exactly the same (that) it was safe there to go and play cricket.
"Obviously, I don't feel the same now."
Sri Lankans thankful to be home
Lawson believes Pakistan will be isolated by the rest of the cricketing world "for the foreseeable future" even if the perpetrators of the attack are found to have specifically singled out the Sri Lanka team due to political unrest in the island nation.
"Whether other sides would have been targeted the same, we won't know until there is a lot of evidence come in," Lawson said.
"Sri Lanka has got a civil war and terrorists that may well be targeting the Sri Lankan cricket team.
"I don't know that and that is speculation, but I would have found it hard for the Australia, England, New Zealand, South African cricket teams to be targeted.
"But it has happened now and one of the national cricket sides has been.
"For the foreseeable future, I don't think international sides will go to Pakistan."
