Samaraweera out for six weeks
SL batsman Thilan Samaraweera will need six weeks to recover following surgery to remove pellets from his knee.
Samaraweera was the worst hit among five players injured when the Sri Lankan team bus was attacked by gunmen while on its way to the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore.Samaraweera suffered a bullet injury in his thigh, but was immediately taken to a private medical facility for further surgery on the team's arrival in Colombo yesterday.
"The surgery was conducted by Dr Narendra Pinto and was successful," Geethanjana Mendis, director general of the Sports Ministry medical unit told the Daily News.
"There is absolutely no danger to Samaraweera. It will take around six weeks for him to recover."
Opening batsman Tharanga Paranavitana, who made his debut in the first Test against Pakistan in Karachi, also needed minor surgery to remove shrapnel in the chest.
He too can return to action in six weeks, Mendis said.
