The Media Manager of the BCB, Ravid Imam, told espnstar.com that the government advised them to postpone the tour.
"We were all prepared for the tour. The Pakistani team was to reach here on the 7th of this month," he said.
The Pakistani team was scheduled to play two Twenty20 internationals and five one-day international matches. The first Twenty20 match was scheduled to be played in Dhaka on 10th March.
"We are trying to fix new dates but nothing is sure as of now," said Imam.
The Media Manager said the Bangladeshi authorities were working out a revised security plan for the tour.
"The ICC requested us to scrutinise the security plan and make changes as deemed appropriate and so we are doing that at the moment," he said.
However, Imam said the postponement had nothing to do with the political turmoil Bangladesh faces now following the clash between their army and the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR).
Pakistan had announced a 16-member squad for the tournament on Wednesday.
