Six newcomers in Proteas squad
South Africa's cricket selectors have named six uncapped players in their initial 30-man squad for the ICC World T20.
The six are Henry Davids, CJ de Villiers, Friedel de Wet, Arno Jacobs, Heino Kuhn and Daryn Smit, while Alviro Petersen, who has not played 20-over cricket for his country but has featured in five one-day internationals, is also included.
Most of the new faces earn their spots on the back of outstanding domestic seasons across all formats of the game.
Roelof van der Merwe and Yusuf Abdulla, debutants against Australia just over a week ago, have also been selected after solid starts to their Proteas careers.
The squad will be led by Graeme Smith, with Johan Botha as his deputy.
Cricket South Africa will reduce the final group to 15 next month ahead of the tournament in June.
Squad: Graeme Smith, Yusuf Abdulla, Hashim Amla, Gulam Bodi, Loots Bosman, Johan Botha, Mark Boucher, Henry Davids, AB de Villiers, CJ de Villiers, Friedel de Wet, JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Arno Jacobs, Jacques Kallis, Heino Kuhn, Johann Louw, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Makhaya Ntini, Justin Ontong, Wayne Parnell, Alviro Petersen, Robin Peterson, Ashwell Prince, Daryn Smit, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Roelof van der Merwe, Vaughn van Jaarsveld.
