Indian colts on top against Oz
Harpreet Singh and Mandeep Singh helped Indian colts recovered from a mid-innings collapse to declare at 417 for seven.
Harpreet Singh (125) and Mandeep Singh (126) struck hundreds
to enable the team take a 111-run first innings lead over the Australian under-19 team on the second day of a three-day cricket match on Sunday.
In reply, Australia scored one run in their second innings before the draw of stumps at Bellerive Oval.
Openers Mayank Aggarwal (68) and Manan Sharma (45) shared an 85-run stand before India found themselves at a precarious 148 for three at lunch.
However, Harpreet and Mandeep combined to add 242 for the fifth wicket and lift India into a potentially match-winning position with big centuries to both players.
Later, skipper Ashok Maneria also contributed 30 runs.
Harpreet's 125 came off 184 deliveries, including 14 fours and two sixes, while Mandeep's 126 from 155 balls included 17 boundaries.
For Australia, Jackson Coleman and Mitchell Marsh picked three wickets apiece.
After declaring their innings, Indians bowled just a couple of overs giving away one run to the visitors.
Australia Under-19 coach Brian McFadyen admitted that Harpreet and Mandeep had got the tourists into a strong position.
"They are very good players, they get a sniff and they really back themselves and play so confidently and fluently that it's very difficult to apply pressure for any length of time and at times we did bowl extremely well but just weren't able to apply purely through that offensive batting," McFadyen said.
