Clarke credits win to bowlers
Michael Clarke praised his bowlers for their effort in difficult conditions after Australia sealed a 3-1 series win over Pak.
Left-arm seamer Doug Bollinger claimed five for 35 as Pakistan were bowled out for a paltry 197 inside the 50 overs in Abu Dhabi.Pakistan seemed to make a fist of it when Shoaib Akhtar claimed two early wickets, but Clarke and Watson ensured victory for Australia with an unbroken 197-run stand for the third wicket.
Clarke was unbeaten on 100, while Watson finished 85 not out.
Clarke hailed the result and credited his bowlers for teeing up the victory.
"Doug bowled brilliantly, but so were all the others with the ball.
"We didn't have a big total to chase so we could set a plan and take our time.
"Our bowlers have stood up once again and I thought we were pretty good in the field today.
"It's so warm here and makes it very tough.
"That's why I say our bowlers have done such a good job for us throughout the series.
"Losing the toss and bowling first, it was really warm, but it worked fine in the end.
"This is a fantastic result for us," he said.
Crease
Clarke said he had walked out to bat with the intention of staying as long as possible at the crease.
"Watson and I wanted to play well upfront, especially after losing a couple of early wickets," he said.
"We wanted to spend as much time as I could at the crease and we felt that if we stayed at the crease till the 45th over we had a pretty good chance of winning the game.
"We put on a good partnership and full credit to Watson, he batted beautifully," he said.
Make inroads
Pakistan captain Younus Khan said the batting had let his team down once again.
"We made the same mistakes which we made in the last couple of games," he said.
"We got only 198 batting first and against a team like Australia that's never going to be enough. You need a score in excess of 230 or 250.
"They won easily in the end," he said.
With Shoaib picking early wickets, Younus had expected to make it difficult for Australia, but his spinners failed to make inroads into Australia's lineup.
"Shoaib began very well and at that time we thought we could get a few more wickets," he said.
"But Clarke and Watson put on a fantastic partnership and that's what we have been missing.
"In hindsight, our spinners were not very effective and that made it easy for them." Younus said his team would be playing for victory in the final one-dayer on Sunday.
"We will give it our all in the final match.
"We will be playing for pride and a win would be very good for us," he said.
