PCB mum on ICC's task force offer
The PCB is yet to respond to ICC's suggestion of forming a special task force in view of Pakistan's volatile security situation.
Haroon Lorgat, the chief executive officer of the ICC, said cricket's world governing body was still waiting for a response from Pakistan on the offer to form the special task force.
"We had also formed a special task force to help Zimbabwe cricket resolve its problems. We have offered to do the same for Pakistan cricket but we can't force any task force on them. They have to accept and cooperate with us," Lorgat said.
"Pak important pillar of international cricket"
He said the purpose of the task force would be to find solutions that could help Pakistan to overcome the present crisis situation crept up due to the refusal of international teams to tour the nation because of security reasons.
"Pakistan is one of the most important pillars of international cricket and there is tremendous talent and love for the sport in the country. We are worried about Pakistan cricket and want to assist and support them at this critical juncture," Lorgat said.
The ICC executive board upset PCB officials and the Pakistani cricket community last month by shifting the 2011 World Cup matches out of the country due to security reasons.
Lorgat also made it clear that Pakistan didn't come up with the option of hosting its share of the megaevent in Dubai or Abu Dhabi at an earlier meeting of the World Cup central organising committee.
"Nor had Pakistan made any official offer in this regard until now to the ICC," he added.
Sources have said that the ICC had asked the four host countries -- Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh -- to suggest alternate venues for their share of matches if they were facing security issues at home.
But Pakistan at that time didn't come up the proposal to have the World Cup matches in the United Arab Emirates.
The PCB has indicated that it was still not willing to accept that it could not host the World Cup and would be raising the issue again at the annual ICC meeting in June.
Sources in the PCB said assistance from former ICC President Ehsan Mani was also being sought to create a lobby to support Pakistan win back its share of the World Cup matches.
Mani, who was ICC President between 2003 and 2006, has demanded that Pakistan should at least be allowed to host its share of matches at venues in the UAE.
