Tait angry at Cricket Australia

The relationship between CA and Shaun Tait has become strained after he expressed his disappointment with the administrative body.

Tait, once considered Australia's great pace hope, has battled form slumps, burn-out and injuries in the past few years and was left out of CA's contracted players list yesterday - raising questions about his future in the game.

While the 26-year-old said he was not surprised he'd been cut, he was annoyed with how the organisation had treated him this year.

CA was concerned about his fitness and stopped him playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the current Indian Premier League season but has now left him on the outer. Tait has a two-year contract with the Royals.

Medical clearance

"When you think you are ready to go and play and obviously Cricket Australia had it in their mind, they thought they had it in their mind, they wanted me for future tournaments that was fair enough," he said.

"But to not let you go, not pick you in a squad and then not give you a contract is a little bit of a kick in the teeth but like I said it's not the end of the world.

"I won't be playing (IPL) this year that's for sure, it's sort of a bit late now but the rules with the medical clearance didn't really fall in my favour so unfortunately I wasn't able to go but I've still got next year and hopefully I can do well next year and add another couple of years onto a contract.

"That''s the other disappointing thing, I could've gone over and trained with them and been around the lads, mingled with Warnie (Shane Warne), he's a great mentor, that would've been good but hopefully I can do that next year.

"He was really excited to have me there and hopefully next year I can get over there with him."

Payroll

On Thursday, CA mentioned Tait would be considered for an upcoming Australia A tour and the one-day series against England which will be played after the Ashes.

Tait said he still had a passion to play for Australia but said CA was expecting a lot given he was no longer on its payroll.

"It's pretty easy for Cricket Australia to say get yourself ready for a tournament when they haven't given you a contract so I mean I could quite easily duck off to the Greek Islands for a couple of months if I wanted to," he said.

"But I'll keep myself fit and I'll keep bowling and if something comes up that would be good."

Tait said he'd be exploring other options during the winter months which could include a stint in county or league cricket in England.

Contract

And he added his main focus remained on playing the shorter versions of the game.

"I think it's no secret I'm trying to concentrate on the shorter form of the game and from what's happened yesterday, being dropped off a contract, it probably frees me up a bit more to do that," he said.

"It (his goal) is whatever my body allows me to do but four-day cricket is a fair way away from my mind at the moment.

"Two years ago we didn't have these options but now the Twenty20 stuff has really kicked off and as far as financially, it's great for the players, it's great for the players' bodies."
