Gayle: Defeats are history

Chris Gayle has urged his West Indies team to look forward rather than back in their bid to arrest their horrendous form.

The West Indians were crushed in the npower Test series and must beat England in Tuesday's one-day international to avoid another campaign defeat.

A success would also improve the tourists' mood ahead of the World Twenty20, which begins here next week.

"I'm concerned about the batting"

Ahead of the final NatWest Series contest, West Indies captain Gayle said: "We are not going back through history. It has happened. But at the same time it has been disappointing so far.

"Our main focus is to square this series, get over that hurdle, then get ready for the Twenty20."

West Indies' slovenly batting resulted in Test defeats by 10 wickets at Lord's and an innings at the Riverside earlier this month.

The theme was extended on Sunday in Bristol, where they were shut out for just 160, and left 11.3 overs of their 50-over allocation unused.

Only Dwayne Bravo, one of the one-day specialists in the XI, showed satisfactory defiance with an attractive 50, and his dismissal sparked a collapse of six wickets for 32 runs.

"I am more concerned about the batting department than anything else," confirmed Gayle.

"You need runs on the board and we have seen how well England have handled themselves."
