Abbas skips Oval Test hearing

Former Pakistan captain Zaheer Abbas did not to appear before PCB's enquiry committee looking into the 2006 Oval Test dispute.

He even questioned the purpose of forming the body.

"I had to attend a personal engagement to which I had committed myself earlier. So I informed the Board I couldn't appear before this committee," Abbas said.

The Test match was awarded to England after the Pakistan team led by Inzamam-ul Haq refused to resume play after tea on fourth day to protest the umpires' decision of charging them with ball tampering.

However, the result was later overturned by the ICC into a drawn match, but the game's governing body again reversed their decision under pressure from the MCC reverting to a forfeited win result for England.

"What purpose is this committee going to serve now. What had to happen has happened and the ICC has taken its decision. Can this committee force the ICC to change its decision," asked Abbas, the then manager of the Pakistan team.

The PCB later formed an enquiry committee with former captain Aamir Sohail as its head to find out if Pakistani players and management was responsible for the fiasco and whether it could have been avoided.
