Meeting of 2011 WC co-hosts postponed

Special meeting of the WC 2011 co-hosts, which was scheduled for June 3 in Dubai, has been postponed to June 15 in London.

The Pakistan Cricket Board officials have confirmed that the meeting, which was called by International Cricket Council to be attended by also by Pakistan alongwith India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, will now be held before the ICC's Annual General Meeting in London.

"The feeling was that since on June 3 Pakistan and India are playing at the Oval before the Twenty20 World Cup it would not be appropriate to hold the meeting on the same day," one PCB official told PTI.

He said the meeting would now take place in London on June 15 during the T20 World Cup where all officials of the boards concerned would be present.

"Meeting is very crucial to us"

"The meeting is being held before the AGM so that things can move forward on our plea that the 2011 World Cup matches be returned to us as we remain hosts of the tournament," another official said.

However, The officials denied reports that the BCCI had forced the postponement of the June 3 meeting.

"It was just prudent to have the meeting in London during the T20 World Cup. But definitely that meeting is very crucial to us and our chances of getting back our share of the World Cup matches," the official admitted.

The special meeting was called by the ICC after it was served with a legal notice by the PCB challenging the decision to move the World Cup matches from Pakistan on security grounds.

The official said Pakistan would definitely broach the issue of the World Cup organising committee meeting in Mumbai despite a stay order from the Lahore civil court which suspended the shifting of the World Cup central secretariat from Lahore to the Indian city.

The PCB has put on hold its legal proceedings against the ICC as it is hoping for a positive outcome from the special World Cup meeting and at the ICC AGM.
