PCB cracks whip on employees

The PCB has set a deadline for 21 of its employees, including national selector Shoaib Mohammad, to stop doing double jobs.

And they would have to decide what employment they prefer.

The governing council of the board, which met on Friday in Lahore, asked former Test batsman Shoaib Mohammad to decide by June 30 if he wanted to working as a selector or continue his job with the national airlines.

The PCB has hired its national and junior selectors on monthly salaries and also pays handsome salaries to its coaches.

"Asif is a valuable player"

"We have found that 21 of our employees are doing double jobs, which is not acceptable. These people would be sent notices to decide what they want to do," PCB chairman Ejaz Butt told reporters after the meeting.

The governing council also discussed the issue of restructuring the board but Butt said no lower grade employees would be laid off in the new plan.

The board had earlier confirmed it intended to lay off some 250 employees as part of its cost saving policy.

Speaking on the issue of the Indian Cricket League players, Butt had some harsh words to say about opener Imran Nazir. "While we have cleared Mohammad Yousuf and Abdul Razzaq for the national selection, we have yet to decide on Nazir because he displayed a lot of indiscipline in the final of the National T20 championship and Pakistan cricket does not require indisciplined players in its ranks," he said.

Butt said the inquiry committee formed to probe into Mohammad Asif's detention in Dubai had sent him their report and he would make it public and announce a decision in the next few days.

"Asif is a valuable player for us and he is already serving a ban but we want to be sure he learns his lessons and does not repeat his indiscretions," he added.

In the meeting, Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam was removed from the governing council.

"Intikhab, before going to England, had submitted his resignation as no paid employee can be a member of the governing council. We also have to take a decision on Javed Miandad soon," Butt added.
