Tuffey eyes return after leaving ICL
Daryl Tuffey is hoping to re-ignite his New Zealand career after confirming his contract with the ICL has been terminated.
The decision by the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) board on Thursday to allow all former Indian Cricket League (ICL) players to be considered for national selection without a stand-down period means Tuffey, who played for Chandigarh Lions, is now eligible.
And the medium-fast bowler, who played his last match for the Black Caps at the World Cup in 2007, is targeting the New Zealand A tour of India in August.
"I'm just happy to be away from the ICL"
"There are no ties anymore. My lawyer has been feverishly working over the last month on the termination of my contract with ICL and it's all been confirmed," Tuffey told Radio Sport.
"I'm just happy to be away from the ICL and be available now for selection for any kind of New Zealand commitments. There are a couple of A tours coming up over the winter which hopefully I can be a part of to try and press my claim for future Black Caps selection."
Tuffey played for Auckland this season but not as a centrally contracted player because of his ICL links.
His rebel status became an issue in the domestic State Championship four-day competition in March when NZC and the touring India side reached an agreement that India's Test players would be allowed to participate in the competition in the build-up to the opening Test in Hamilton.
Tuffey was initially asked to sit out a game between Auckland and Northern Districts in order for the Indians, who cannot be associated with the ICL, to be accommodated but refused with the backing of the New Zealand Players' Association and no Indian players played for either of those provincial sides.
And the 30-year-old was part of the State Championship title-winning side that defeated Central Districts in the five-day final in April.
