Strauss: Colly was not at fault
England Test and one-day captain Andrew Strauss does not believe Paul Collingwood, is to blame for England's defeat by Holland.
The hosts were embarrassed in the opening game of the World Twenty20 at Lord's and some fingers have been pointed in the direction of Collingwood, who agreed to take charge of the side for the tournament despite admitting he had not enjoyed his first stint in control.Strauss told Sky Sports News: "I don't think you can blame the captain for a defeat like that.
"We didn't get quite enough runs"
"The batsmen can hold their hands up and say 'We didn't get quite enough runs' and probably the bowlers and fielders would say 'We could have done better'."
Strauss conceded the loss would have left the England players downhearted, but backed them to put things right in their do-or-die clash against Pakistan at The Oval on Friday.
"It's a tough loss to take," said Strauss. "You're losing to a side that maybe most people around the country underestimated. I think Holland proved they've got the capabilities to play good Twenty20 cricket.
"The guys will be feeling pretty down today, I'm sure, but my experience of the side is they bounce back well after a performance like that.
"I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a really good performance on Sunday."
Strauss felt England's failure to capitalise on a good start with the bat was the key to their four-wicket final-ball defeat.
He said: "Maybe we could have got some more runs with the bat - 15 or 20 more runs might have put the game out of Holland's reach.
"But fair play to Holland, they played well and they played with confidence and it's one of those situations where you don't have anything to lose.
"You could see that by the way they went around their business."
