Miandad refuses to vacate position

Director-general of the PCB Javed Miandad has refused to vacate his position on the decision making governing council.

The council which met on June 5, decided that no paid employee of the PCB can sit on the council which consists elected representatives of the affiliated associations, departments and nominated technocrats by the chief patron of the board, President Asif Ali Zardari.

PCB chairman Ejaz Butt said that the former captain Miandad could not be removed by the council members since he was nominated by the chief patron, so the cricketer will be asked to step down.

"An approval is required to remove Miandad"

"An approval is required from the chief patron to remove him. We will ask Miandad to vacate his position and chose on post," Butt said.

Although sources said that Miandad, who had attended the meeting opposed the new regulation insisting that he was nominated directly by the chief patron on the council, while his position as director-general cricket was a different matter.

"Once we get the reply we will forward it to the chief patron for further action," Butt stated.

Butt has now left for China and sources said Miandad issue would now be resolved when he returns. Miandad, a legendary figure in Pakistan cricket returned to the board after Butt initially refused to accommodate his demands for a hefty salary and to give him more authority.

Pressure from the ruling party forced the PCB chairman to accept Miandad back in the board after he had resigned in protest earlier this year.

Miandad, who is also Pakistan's cricket ambassador to China, and Butt have not seen eye to eye on many issues including the choice of former leg-spinner Abdul Qadir as chief selector - a post he has now resigned from.
