Nielsen unconcerned by Buchanan's role
John Buchanan does release trade secrets with the ECB, it will have no bearing on the Ashes series, says current Aussie chief Tim Nielsen.
Buchanan will take a short-term consultancy role ahead of the start of the Ashes next month and will arrive in England on June 28 to commence his duties, which include reviewing coaching programs and working with the Under-19 side and the British Lions team.
In a coincidence sure to raise eyebrows among those who believe Buchanan is guilty of cricket treason, the Lions play Australia in their final tour match before the first Test.
Nielsen, however, claimed that the large turnover of players since he replaced Buchanan following the 2007 World Cup meant there would be little, if any, relevant classified information trading hands.
Of Australia's 16-man Ashes squad, only five played in the whitewash of England in 2006-07.
"I'm not sure if he does know our secrets. It's been a couple of years now since he's finished," Nielsen said.
"We have a new team now"
"We've had 14 or 15 players that have turned over since John was coach. We play a different way now. We've had to because we don't have those great players around the place.
"Different guys, we've got different ideas. It's nice that he's around, it's good that he's got some work, it's no issue at all.
"All the ideas in the world are great but in the end it's the 11 players on the ground being well prepared, executing their skills," Nielsen added.
"It can't hurt and it won't hurt. It will be positive for England. It will certainly make us sit up and take notice of what he's got to say and add another dimension to the Ashes series, I'm sure."
