BCB lifts ban on ICL players

BCB lifts ban on ICL players

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has revoked the 10-year bans it imposed on players who signed for the rebel Indian Cricket League.

Fourteen Bangladesh players were banned by the BCB last September after taking part in the ICL, which is not recognised by the International Cricket Council.

The BCB announced last month, however, they were willing to lift the ban on players - provided they quit the ICL before June 15.

Today's statement confirmed all 14 players, including former captain Habibul Bashar, had taken up the offer, allowing them an immediate return to domestic duties.

The players will not, however, be able to return to the national team until December 31, 2009 under the terms of the agreement.

"The 14 cricketers who were under contract with the ICL formally applied to the BCB within the deadline seeking permission to return to domestic cricket," a board statement said.

"They also submitted the necessary documents to confirm that they have terminated their contract with the ICL.

"As they have fulfilled the requirements to avail the amnesty the BCB therefore recognises that these players are eligible to participate in all forms of domestic cricket with effect from 16 June 2009."

In addition to Bashar, the Bangladesh players who have had their bans lifted include: Aftab Ahmed, Alok Kapali, Dhiman Ghosh, Farhad Reza, Golam Mabud, Mahbubul Karim, Manjural Islam, Mohammad Rafique, Mohammad Sharif, Mosharraf Hossain, Nazimuddin, Shahriar Nafees and Tapash Baisya.

Earlier this month an understrength Bangladesh team was bundled out of the World Twenty20 at the first hurdle after back-to-back defeats against India and non-Test nation Ireland.
