Younus: Pressure on Pakistan

Pakistan captain Younus Khan admits his team will be under pressure to deliver in next month's Test series against Sri Lanka.

After Pakistan's ICC World Twenty20 triumph, they would be under pressure.

Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the final of the tournament at Lord's to claim their first world title since winning the 1992 World Cup.

"Sri Lanka have a very balanced team"

The victory sparked scenes of jubilation throughout Pakistan and the players were showered with congratulatory messages and cash awards.

But Younus believes the success could be quickly forgotten if the team fares poorly in the three-Test series in Sri Lanka, which starts in Galle on July 4.

"We will have to forget about the World Twenty20 win and focus on what is a very tough assignment against Sri Lanka," Younus said.

"Once a new tour begins everything else is forgotten. Sri Lanka have a very balanced team and they will be a tough challenge. It will be double the pressure because people would now expect us to win every match."

Younus believes the series will be a greater test of Pakistan's quality than the ICC World twenty20.

"In a twenty20 match, the true ability of a player cannot be gauged, but that is not the case in Test cricket," he said. "In Test cricket your skill and ability is seriously tested. We will have to be on top of our game to beat Sri Lanka."

The three-Test series is followed by a five-match one-day series and a twenty20 international.
