PCB gives selectors the boot

The Pakistan Cricket Board has disbanded its national selection committee without giving a reason for the decision.

Legendary leg-spinner Abdul Qadir, who was chief of the three-member selection committee, had resigned after just seven months following a row over the exclusion of fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar from the World Twenty20 squad.

Qadir, who claimed 236 wickets from 67 Tests, had said he resigned because he was not allowed to function independently.

The PCB had appointed human resources director Wasim Bari to pick the team for the tour of Sri Lanka along with the two other selectors Saleem Jaffar and Shoaib Mohammad.

Neither Qadir nor the other two selectors were invited by the PCB to celebrate Pakistan's triumph in the World Twenty20.

The decision to disband the selection committee was taken by Ijaz Butt. He did not say when new panel of selectors would be installed.
